The aim of the project is to reduce maternal and child mortality in remote areas of South Sudan by improving access to health services, strengthening health systems and educating communities.

1. Project design

Integrated healthcare for mothers and children

The project provides comprehensive medical care for pregnant women, newborns and children under the age of five in the Pibor region of South Sudan. It includes the training of medical staff, the provision of equipment and medicines as well as the construction and renovation of health facilities.

2. Goals

Reduction of mothers and infant mortality

The main aim of the project is to improve access to high-quality healthcare services for mothers and children and thus reduce mortality rates in the region.

Increasing the number of qualified obstetricians and improving healthcare in remote areas.

Training of 2 doctors, 4 midwives and 2 anesthetists for the treatment of emergencies during childbirth and for the care of mothers and newborns.

Introduction of systems for better monitoring and evaluation of health services in the region.

Raise awareness and train health professionals in the community to promote the use of health services.

Evaluation of lessons learned from the project as a basis for future initiatives, projects and strategies.

3. project structure

Project structure and implementation

The project comprises several measures spread over a year and aims to sustainably improve the healthcare system in the region. From the training of medical staff to the provision of equipment and infrastructure, the project is implemented in close cooperation with local health authorities.

1.Provision of health services.

Modernization of health facilities and provision of basic medical supplies to ensure continuous care for mothers and newborns.

2.Training for healthcare staff.

Conducting training for 2 doctors, 4 midwives and 2 anaesthetists specializing in obstetric emergencies.

3.Educating the communities.

Mobilize community workers to raise awareness and educate mothers and families on the importance of prenatal care and the use of health services.

4.Monitoring and evaluation.

Introduction of an improved system for data collection and monitoring of health services in order to continuously evaluate the results and make adjustments.

5.Provision of equipment.

Supply of medical equipment and restoration of infrastructure for safe deliveries and emergency care in 2 district hospitals.

6.Community-based programs.

Strengthening the capacity of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to provide health services in remote areas to increase the reach and quality of health care.
