Wherever ForAfrica is active, we work actively with the communities. At schools, these are committees consisting of representatives of teachers and parents who discuss school issues or organize volunteers, e.g. for food preparation and distribution.

Classrooms: The 13 classes currently have to be taught in semi-open classrooms or in the open air. The children are exposed to the weather and cannot concentrate properly. The parent-teacher committee therefore requested cement from the government in 2019 for the construction of classrooms. This has now finally arrived and the committee has been able to start building 2 new classrooms and a staff room. Both are to be completed as soon as possible with the help of volunteers from the village and the surrounding area, so that the children can learn in an improved environment.

Kitchen and storehouse: The school’s kitchen is a temporary building covered with thatch. The school is aiming to build a permanent kitchen for preparing meals. The school feeding goods are stored in a secure warehouse.

Latrines, sanitation and hygiene: The school has no latrines and needs help with the procurement of zinc sheets, doors and cement for the construction of latrines for the pupils and school staff.

Water point: The school well drilled in 2013 has been out of order since 2020. This complicates the hygiene and water situation at the school. Instead of running water, the school used Tippy-Tap water stations to guarantee a minimum standard of hygiene.  The repair of the fountain is already being planned. Not only the schoolchildren will benefit from a new well, the village community can also make good use of the clean water. Since the well is no longer functional, the residents fetch their drinking water from the Cubal River, 1.5 km away.
